Arizona’s Governor Signs
Pink Fire Truck!
Glendale Daily Planet
July 17, 2008
By Ed
Sharpe, Dave Graybill and others as noted.
If you ask Dave Graybill why he is
driving a pink fire truck he will probably start by saying he had
an epiphany one day, to make a difference for the women of this
country. (Read the sidebar at end to learn
more!)
The Guardians of the Ribbon where out at
the Capitol on Thursday to honor Governor Janet Napolitano for her
fight against breast cancer. The Governor was asked to sign her
name and a note on the truck in a specific place that was
picked out by Dave Graybill.
Why was that spot chosen for her to
sign? Dave replied, “It is right below where I
drive the pink fire truck and it is right between the fire and
police on our logo”.
“This
is to encourage everyone to get early, regular exams!”

You see Dave is a Glendale Fire Fighter
and the creator of Guardians of the Ribbon and he is asking all
Fire and Police agencies and the leaders of there communities to “Care
Enough to Wear Pink” on the 25th, 26th and 27th of
October.
The Guardians will drive this pink fire
truck across America visiting 32 cities on a 10,000 mile journey
spreading awareness and hope to all the women who have been
affected by breast cancer. He is asking all these women and a few
men to please sign the pink fire truck and remind all those others
that see the pink fire truck to go and get a mammogram.
Dave's goals and those of his non-profit
organization, Guardians of the Ribbon are, "To have as many
people throughout the Country as possible wear pink on the 25th
26th and 27th of October called the
“Care Enough to Wear Pink Campaign”.”
To drive the pink fire truck down the
streets with its pink lights on, having four firefighters in pink
responding to a breast cancer patients home, once there they will
deliver care packages of Hope and Love in pink
boxes. In one of these pink boxes there will be a pink check book,
we will then help her pay the medical bills associated with
her/his fight with breast cancer.
If you would like to help Dave and the
Guardians of the ribbon you can go to www.pinkribbontour.com
or e-mail him at dgraybill911@yahoo.com.
All the sales of shirts and donations are going to help pay the
expenses for the trip across America in the pink fire truck. Dave
estimates that he will need about $12,000 for fuel and if anyone
wants to donate they can do so online.

How the 'Care
Enough to Wear Pink'
Campaign Started
We wanted to know how such a dynamic
program as 'Care
Enough to Wear Pink' Campaign'
got started.
Dave told us, "I have a friend
who is a fire fighter in Las Cruces New Mexico and his name is
Wally Monsivaiz. One day he called and said his department was
going to wear pink work shirts for breast cancer awareness, he
thought it would be a great idea for our department. After
sleeping on it for a night, it all started coming to me, how I
could inspire about 3,000,000 fire and police officers and leaders
in the community to get involved and start supporting our
women."
A complex pink colored scenario began to
form in Dave's mind, "I dreamed up the pink fire truck and
the statue on the pink trailer with fire fighters dressed in pink
and wearing pink fire helmets, crossing America and inspiring
others to get involved by our efforts."
Dave emphasizes, "We are a male
dominated profession supporting a female dominated disease and we
are in the job of caring for people, I think at the very least we
can 'Care Enough to Wear Pink'."
He continues, "My greatest thing in life to leave for my
own kids is my legacy and to do that I want to help as many people
as I can, by bringing them together for others that we may never
meet. It is not about my pocket book but about my actions that
will be left for my kids when I die."
To Dave and others , breast cancer is not
just a woman thing. There are countless organizations and
businesses that are male dominated that are doing something about
breast cancer awareness such as professional baseball,
professional football and countless others.
Dave
tells us, "I want our organizations (Police and
fire) along with our Politicians to have their own days as
well and if others like the Military and the celebrities in
Hollywood want to join in great."
Different groups
have different days that they celebrate the fight against breast
cancer so I picked these three 25th, 26th and 27th as the days
to care enough to wear pink. They are three because there is
three shifts on the fire department."

GLENDALE NAMES NEW
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR AFTER NATIONWIDE SEARCH
GLENDALE,
Ariz. – Following a nationwide
search, Glendale has named Brian Friedman as its new economic
development director.
Friedman has been serving as interim
economic development director since October of 2007. Prior to
that, he was in the city’s Planning Department as Senior
Planner and then Principal Planner, responsible for developing
much of what is now open and planned in the city’s sports and
entertainment district. Before coming to work for the city of
Glendale, Friedman was the Director of Planning and Zoning for
Santa Cruz County.
In his time as interim director, Friedman
helped to bring 350 new jobs to the city, and worked to open two
new businesses in the core downtown area.
“I am very pleased to announce Brian
Friedman as our new economic development director,” said Deputy
City Manager Art Lynch. “In his new, official capacity, he will
be working to meet the City Manager’s and Council’s goals for
redevelopment of the Glendale Avenue corridor, attracting high
wage jobs in targeted industries, assisting the city’s executive
team with major projects, growing the economic diversity of the
city and continuing to bring tangible investments to the city.”
Friedman’s educational background
includes a master’s degree in Planning and Urban Design from the
University of Arizona, as well as a bachelor’s degree in
Regional Development. In addition, Friedman is fluent in both
Spanish and French, and is conversational in several other
languages, bringing an additional skill to the table in today’s
